A delegation from the University of Zakho participated in a two-day Conference entitled "Qualifications for Inclusive Education in Iraq and Kurdistan Region" organized by the University of Oldenburg and the Europa University in Flensburg. The conference took place at the University of Duhok on April 26 and 27, 2023. Participants from the University of Zakho had a very active role in the conference and all the discussions held. The delegation consisted of Asst. Prof. Dr. Karwan Fahmi Sami, Vice President for Students Affairs, Dr. Zahid Sami Mohammed, Head of the Department of Psychology, Asst. Prof. Ivan Hasan Murad and Asst. Prof. Khorsheed Mohammed Rasheed Ahmed from the Department of English Language/ Faculty of Humanities.
The main focus of the conference was on the innovative and modern subjects, methods, strategies of learning in Inclusive Education, and Special Need Education. The program of the conference started with an overview of the project and the steps that have been done in the project "Qualifications for Inclusive Education in Iraq and Kurdistan Region" presented by Prof. Dr. Clemens Hillenbrand, Head of the Institute for Special and Rehabilitation Education. He further laid out the steps for the next projects, the discussions, and the planning of the future events along with the cooperation between the five participating universities from Iraq and Kurdistan region and three universities from Germany. This was followed by a welcome and an introductory speech presented by Prof. Dr. Marie-Christine Vierbuchen from the Europa University in Flensburg. Later, several presentations were delivered by the staff of the five participating universities in the project. The team of the University of Zakho presented their topic on “The Concepts of Implementation of Special Needs Education and Inclusive Education to the Academic Offer of the University and the Community” presented by both Asst. Prof. Ivan H. Murad and Asst. Prof. Khorsheed Mohammed Rasheed. On the second day of the conference, two field visits were conducted: one to Naz Private Autism Center, and the other was paid to Duhok Public Health Center. Later on, the reflection on the visits to the aforementioned centers was discussed. The conference ended with two presentations delivered by the delegation from the two German universities: Oldenburg and Europa University in Flensburg. The first presentation was entitled “High Leverage Practices for Inclusive and Special Education”. It was delivered by Prof. Dr. Hillenbrand and the second was entitled “Social Information Processing and Inclusive Education” which was presented by Prof. Dr. Marie-Christine Vierbuchen from the Europa University in Flensburg.
It is worth mentioning that the project is funded by the German DAAD organization which supports the project for beneficial cooperation between all mentioned universities in the future.
