A delegation from the University of Zakho participated in a workshop titled “Review and Update of the 2017 Iraqi Building Seismic Code” on October 1, 2023, which was organized by the Ministry of Construction and Housing of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Erbil. The workshop was attended by engineering teachers in Kurdistan Regional Universities, consultant engineers, designers, and the advisory committee on earthquakes from Baghdad city.

The University of Zakho was represented by Dr. Mushir H. Ali and Ms. Seevar D. Salah Al-Din from the Civil and Environmental Department. Furthermore, issues related to earthquakes and building structures in the country were discussed. After each session, discussion panels were held to address current issues and future implications between the presenters and the attendees.

The workshop ended with a list of recommendations to tackle the issues in the future in the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
