The University of Zakho successfully implemented the English Indexing Test. English Indexing test is a test set by the Ministry of Higher Education and in collaboration with the Education First organization. The test is for students, teachers, and staff of all universities in the Kurdistan region. It includes two language skills of English: reading and listening and it takes 50 minutes (25 reading and 25 listening). The Test committee at UOZ included: Dr. Aveen M. Hassan Ph.D., Mr. Ivan H. Murad MA Faculty members at English Language Department, Mr. Sinan Fadhel Salman, Miss Jwan Sabah Izzet, Mr. Hajar Abduljabar Qasim, and Mr. Alan Hashim Ahmed, IT Specialists. According to the timetable set, on Sunday 19th of May, 2019, the test officially started and it ended on Sunday 9th of June, 2019. It was being held every day from 9 am to 3 pm. A great number of students, administrative staff, and academicians took part in the test as they were very enthusiastic to know their general English language level. Even though the time of the test was not appropriate and all the students were busy with their exams and the academic staff was busy with the students grades, proctoring final exam, marking students papers, and busy with the examination committees, the number of participants could be estimated to have reached around (750) participants. This is due to the effective cooperation of all deans, heads of departments, unit managers, and IT specialists. Generally speaking, the test was conducted effectively and no administration and IT problems were faced. The internet line was of high quality and speed. There was negative feedback from some of the students and academicians mainly because of the time at which the test is implemented as everyone was busy with their own duties. The success of the implementation of the test at UOZ is due to the support of the president of the university Dr. Lazgin Abdi Jamil, and the Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Post-graduate Studies Dr. Yassin T. Mustafa for providing the administrative staff of the test with everything needed for the successful conduction of the test. Additionally, the efforts of the heads of departments especially Mr. Hozan G. Othman were obvious in inviting participants and proctoring test takers. Special thanks are to the UOZ students and academic staff for taking time and doing the test at this busiest time of the year.
