On Wednesday, February 17, 2021, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region , Dr. Aram M. Qadir chaired a meeting held by the ministry in the presence of representatives of the Kurdistan universities and the Supreme Committee to follow up on the national ranking of universities and to talk about the ongoing preparations regarding the announcement of the date of the national classifications. Assistant Professor Dr. Karwan F. Sami-Vice President for Students Affairs represented the University of Zakho in the meeting.

The minister stated that local and international universities' research and scientific activities have been followed up and reviewed, and that the standards followed for this year will differ somewhat from the standards of previous years. He added that the classification will not be in the groups system, but will be in the usual order, as the classification list will be announced on the new website.
